sketching ideas
While sketching, I came up with a several proposals for the layout of the bridge concerning how it meets the ground and how users will approach it. The first proposals suggest the typical bridge with constructive tectonics that suggest a relation to the Venetian arsenale. These may include hanging/tensions cables and rib-like beams that float above the bridge...somehow. The bridge is approached from the front, like any standard bridge. Some of the obstacles this brings with it is the span of the steps and how far it intersects into the public space.
proposal 2 utilizes the same principals and ideas from the first but its entry is approached from the side to avoid as much intersection with the public space as there is more space to make up for the steps. this configuration also allows for the bridge to meet the ground more notoriously and become a part of the space as a whole.
proposal 3 is a hovers much higher and grafts onto the buildings on the more private sector of the site, it continues to utilize the same language. an issue with this proposal is that since it hovers much higher in order to graft there is a pocket of awkward "enclosed" space that lies beneath and breaks up the volumetric qualities the connecting space has to offer.
proposal 4 approaches the height in a different manner. rather than hovering taller it does the complete opposite. this bridge lays the lowest. in order for boat traffic to get through the bridge is split in 2. the platforms slide and make way for through traffic. the bridge will become semi enclosed and act as a timeline through the history of the Venetian arsenale. hanging glass details will hover over the water as the bridge platforms slide.
