The past 9 days were a whirlwind of a trip high in contrast - 3 days in Firenze, crib of the Renaissance, followed by 4 in Barcelona, modern bohemian rebel child. Woof. The differences are boundless, but both hold important seats in European culture, retrospective and looking forward, though Barcelona definitely is the more experimental of the two. The integration of new and old is successful, maybe something Firenze will be able to implement once everything starts falling apart.

Some of the better sketches from the past week in Barcelona - mainly I was trying to focus on using light and shadow to build contrast between complex layers and joints. Some are clearly more successful than others, but looking at sections in detail seems to be the most effective solution for now.

Excellent post. Great combinations of line work and shading. These four very different structures receive different handwork and framing choices. Excellent tonal weight and emphasis.
