After almost 2000 years there are many pieces of the wall still standing(cyan), all different sizes.  The wall, where still standing, created a boundary between the older part of Vicenza on the inside and the newer part on the outside.  Even where there was no wall the boundary that was created originally is still present.  This is partly due to the main road surrounding the older part, but it is also caused by the boundary the houses make in place of the wall. 

This segment of the wall sits in between two building, each building off of the wall.  The wall becomes integrated into the newer buildings.  The same is true for the building that has been added to the top of the wall.  Bricks act as the pieces that grab onto the new and hold it in place.  

The arch in the wall acts as an entrance to the older part of the city.  The new is built off perpendicular from the wall. 

The motte creates a boundary between the park and the high-end housing. 

The vines act as a natural plaster that holds parts of the walls together.

Brick and stone make up the wall, with the brick becoming the element that ties the old and new together.  It also is used to repair the wall and add support.
