Boats of Venice

A Transportation Interface
The bridge is facilitating the movement osf venice's pedestrians and boaters throught the public services of passageway, public seating, boat fueling, and transportation tickets. This is a place where people can decide to exchange methods of movement. The transition will become fluid and easier for the Venetian resident. The intervention will grow from the idea of the ballet of the boats (docking, loading, feuling, passing).
How?

  • Widen the canal
  • The structure of the bridge becomes the program space
    • place where it touches the ground used for storage/ fuel services
    • the vertical support anchors used as dividers of traffic
    • the loading dock as a moveable contraption the adapts to water level
  • Must find the perfect height for activity under the bridge
    • the space underneath is just as important so the underbelly needs design to engage the boat travelers
  • Activity above the bridge is covered for protection of walkers but should allow views of the waterways
    • the only place where people breath out of the confinement of walls is when hovering over the canals
  • In section, the left side (southern) is different in the degree of public domain (restaurant front)
