Bridge de la Misericordia

Located in the Cannaregio district of Venice, the Fondamenta Misericordia area is prone to high levels of flooding and damage to the canal walls. To provide a space that will not be affected by flooding, the installation of dams on each side of the intersection will create a secured space throughout the bridge from flood waters. Since the schools are located in areas where buildings become flooded, the bridge will become an additional space for the schools that students and faculty can utilize during acqua alta.

This neighborhood is fragmented by the river and there is no bridge that directly leads to either school which forces students to have a longer commute. A bridge at this location will help connectivity within the community, both residential and amongst students. The bridge will divide sectionally into private and public accessibility to accommodate residential and student pedestrians. The private bridge for students has access to additional educational facilities on the second floor of the building. This space can be utilized when the schools are flooded which encourages communal relationships within the schools and community.
