Preliminary Mapping of the site. The eastern side of the site becomes a sliver framed between two waterways. More frequent stairs into the water on the western edge implies more traffic on that half of the site, as does the adjacent park and the larger scale campo that funnels to the water's edge. Since this canal was the original entrance to Venice (prior to the train station, which also sits in rather close proximity), I imagine there is a decent amount of traffic through the area, both a piedi e in barco. Also of interest, pockets of space form along the alleyways in what I thought might be a relief from the long, tight alleyways, but they also seemed to be walled off and inaccessible. |
