Taking inspiration from the existing graffiti wall and great food culture in Italy, the project seeks to revitalize the current site with food, art, and fun. Central to the development of the design is the address of Contra' Mure Porta Nova to the North and Giardini Salvi to the South through a central datum composed of art exhibition/production areas within a long-spanning park. The idea is to extend the idea of play and relaxation from Giardini Salvi into the site, enabling the green space to manifest throughout the block; here, people of all ages can enjoy not only the usual pleasures of parks, but also engage in street arts (such as spray painting and chalk-drawing) and formal arts. As time passes into the evening, the area would become a place of exhibition of these artworks and others that people bring and install as they please: this is a dynamic gallery of local origins. The park/gallery mediates the privacy of the housing units that exist around the site and the commercial spaces as well. On site will be a hub for local foods, incorporating many shops that sell, teach, and produce goods available to the public; in this sense, the complex will become an extension of the current food-wine organization in Vicenza, the International Library La Vigna. Just as the complex changes from day to night, the site will also change on market days when open spaces enable vendors to stake out in the streets and plazas to sell their wares. Overall, the design is driven by the diurnal reactions between program and spaces.
