P3X3 Schematic Design continued...

Lofting curves between horizontal layers: This form seems way too foreign for Vicenza. I'm going to continue to work with this to form a different connection.

Open space between horizontal layers: Although it would be a challenge to tie the layers down and not make them seem like they're floating, I think this space provides an opportunity for perhaps a communal garden space, or maybe a mediation space between the students and the artists. Maybe this is where they come together and the students are mentored. Does that take away from the park? I like the idea of a free plan layer between the structured layers of housing. It would form a dialogue between both free plan layers.

Extruded curves, layered: I didn't think this form would work because it would be too pancakey, but it provided great opportunities for balcony areas.

  1. Professor Bender, here's a few form studies I hashed out, each studying a different relationship. I'm going to continue with the mediating space one, I think it provides an interesting solution to the mediation between student and artist. And also creates a vertical dialogue between ground free plan and elevated free plan. What do you think?

  2. I meant to comment on this or speak with you about it on the trip to Arzignono. I also prefer the lofted version. The in-between spaces present sectional opportunities that are unavailable otherwise. They also perform on an overall form-making level. If you don't get to exploring these sectionally in the detail exercise then perhaps next. The way you conceive this project materially may make the difference between an odd project and an astounding one. We will get to talk about this during discussion of your details.I look forward to it.
