P3 Final

Inspired by the historic statues in Giardini Salvi, the structure will be a direct extension of the park by having open gallery spaces at the ground level which will house artwork. These spaces will incorporate green walls to emphasize the continuation of the park space to Contra Porta Nova. Galleries are inversely related to above studio spaces where light is able to illuminate the galleries and greenery while darker areas house understory plants. Upper levels will include housing and spaces for art classes where people have the opportunity to learn about drawing, painting, sculpting, etc.  Other levels include restaurants for students and art stores where students can buy supplies for their classes. The gallery spaces are inspired by the ones at the Vatican Museum where people are able to admire the artwork while enjoying the greenery and fresh air. By using hanging walls of alabaster, light is able to enter the spaces through transparency and reflectivity from the water. The site becomes an exploration of how to bring light into the gallery spaces through the study of materiality and the manipulation of form.
