So I've been having a really hard time working on the rhino model so I
used what I already had to make the drawings, and added to them. We
talked about the underground bridge into the building so I built into
the park side now. The screen shot picture is of the staircase on the
park side. It would spread out into all the directions but you could
only really go up using the stairs. I kind of thought about it as if its
roots of a tree growing into all the different directions and grounding
itself into something. The library part has been easier to work on for
some reason. Probably because it feels like it can have a bigger range of
room sizes and its not so narrow. I don't know if I should just keep
working on the drawings or go back to the rhino model.
Is it the idea of landscape design that is giving you trouble? Speaking compositionally, I don't like the walls at the edges, the parallel ones with the sweeps at the ends. They choke off the hope of integrating this design with the design of the park. Plus, I think you limit yourself by making this extension perpendicular to the site but not aligned with anything in the park. Buildings and landscapes in Italy skew, shift and adjust to make up for the myriad medieval imperfections in the alignment of the grid. It is a multiplicitous forgiveness of imperfect geometry that results in a folded spatial adventure. Let the edges of this landscape form adjust to the presence of the park path and space. I do like the idea of this piazza in the park. I would like it even more if it had a grassy knoll in it. Sort of a park within a piazza within a park. The knoll could be taller than the surrounding park so it would be visible from across the park. Think n general about P1 wall/gate and think about how the wall zone in Verona makes a park above and below the city at its edge and in a park.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of landscape design gives me a little trouble but I'm trying not to just recreate the end of my bridge from the last project but on this site which is hard because that bridge just keeps popping up in my head. The paths of the garden are curved so its tempting to do something curved again. Thinking about having this mini park within the piazza helps though because then it'll be more if a place to pause then just a place to walk through.
