Flooding and Canal Wall Damage - Morphological Tourism

"About half of surveyed walls and buildings show damage. Turbulent waves caused by motorboats can accelerate the deterioration of canal walls. When sediment accumulates in canals and clogs sewer lines, sewage seeps into adjoining canals and damages brick and mortar. Dredging sediment helps limit damage. "

"Piazza San Marco: One of the lowest spots in Venice, the entrance to the Basilica in San Marco floods frequently. Temporary elevated walkways provide passage."
