Sketching Florence + Barcelona

Free Choice: First two sketches are at church of the Autostrada outside of Florence showing the depth and shadows caused by light and form. The form of the church is impressive but pales in comparison to the interior. The amount layers within the structure of this church is incredible. Michelucci intertwines massing and tectonics at every scale, in every space within the building.

Barcelona Pavilion: The third sketch I just wanted to simply draw out how gridded the design of the Pavilion is. Every architectural move was designed within a rigid gridded plan. I was impressed by how clean and simple the Pavilion was, down to every joint and It was clear that designing within a grid was the main driving factor behind this.

Park Guell: one of my favorite spots within Barcelona. The park was surprisingly huge offering better views at every corner. The colonnaded walkways added another dimension to what the landscape that most parks are missing. The way Gaudi planned out the paths and resting points within the park was extremely thought out. The shadows make the park ever changing as you can view the sun rise from the east and set in the west.
