This is right next to the Torment Tower(?). Does anyone know what this is made of? I think it looks like the concrete is poured into a bamboo form, but I'm not sure.
It looks like it was textured with a spatula. I've seen different versions of stucco around that look like they were applied in a painterly fashion. In this case it looks like concrete was applied and then flattened out with a rake or spatula that has teeth on its edge.
You can put all kinds of things on the surface of a concrete form. Your builder will complain and sometimes the idea might fall but when it works it is a great effect. This is reeds or bamboo, mounted to the form. I'm not sure what they would have used to make sure it didn't stick (form release). They had to chip off the excess that got through the reeds so this does make it a little similar to the Orlando public library which is hammered concrete.
I think it's concrete.....but I'm not sure. There's a library in Orlando that has the same material as a cladding.
ReplyDeleteI'm positive it is concrete. I was wondering what it might be poured into to give it that texture though.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting- concrete as a cladding?
