Lavanderia Lassù

My project concerns public space and it's importance in Venice's history.  At my site, I aim to improve the shared public of the canal while mitigating the site's unique conditions of public versus private.

My program involves a sustainable lavanderia through the use of a rain-collection system. Hanging laundry is one of the few remaining evidences of residency in Venice -- it's a fascinating phenomenon to non-locals. It also creates interesting conditions, whether overhead or adjacent. The inclusion of "linee"

elements became a focus of my design, as well as the rain-collection system. For this system, I looked to historical examples of water collection in Venetian campi. These examples informed the function and form of my project's roof and cistern.
