Notable Constructions Around the Site
Santa Caterina
Founded in the 11th century by the "Sachinni friars," the church was converted several times before being taken in by the adjacent Scuole Pubbliche Liceo M. Foscarini, which currently occupies almost half of the island.  What art once adorned the church walls have been removed over time, leaving a large space now used subdivided into three classrooms and two side altars.

Scuola Vecchia della Misericordia
A part of the Scuole Grandi of Venezia, this building began as a part of a confraternity founded in the 13th century to provide charity and religion to everyone.

Considerations

- How to celebrate the tradition of arts and crafts of Venezia, particularly the process of glass making?
- How to connect those gathering spaces that are open to the public while respecting the privacy of the local residents?
- How to integrate water into the design?  To submerge the constructions at instances?  To weave water into the intervention....as a moment of pause? as a manipulator of light? as a material to be manipulated?  Does water come into contact with the occupant?  Or does it remain purely visual?
- How to react to acqua alta?
