This bridge deals with issues plaguing the plausible modernization of Venice, especially based around the idea that young families need to reinhabit the city in order to establish a new population. The bridge uses a space to create micro housing, commercial zoning, and a thruway as well as makes use of existing buildings for support.
3 major points:
- Attaching to preserved parts of existing buildings in a way that makes use of the remaining skeleton.
- Lightweight frame construction allows for a long span and concentrated loads; it is inspired by the scaffolds that constantly inhabit important zones in the city. The space created where the loads come down resembles a loggia.
- The repetitive language starts to talk about an idea about deploying the same strategy throughout areas of Venice - the site was chosen because it is a common recurrence within the city's fabric.
