P2Final: Colonizing the New Venezia

This bridge deals with issues plaguing the plausible modernization of Venice, especially based around the idea that young families need to reinhabit the city in order to establish a new population. The bridge uses a space to create micro housing, commercial zoning, and a thruway as well as makes use of existing buildings for support.

3 major points:

  1. Attaching to preserved parts of existing buildings in a way that makes use of the remaining skeleton.
  2. Lightweight frame construction allows for a long span and concentrated loads; it is inspired by the scaffolds that constantly inhabit important zones in the city. The space created where the loads come down resembles a loggia.
  3. The repetitive language starts to talk about an idea about deploying the same strategy throughout areas of Venice - the site was chosen because it is a common recurrence within the city's fabric.
