Venice is a dense city with strategically placed green spaces located around the city. Upon my exploration of the city, it came to my attention that many of these parks in the city were dead. The parks were not as engaging as the rest of the city and failing to draw in people. Therefore, the idea of incorporating green into the design of the bridge was born.
Materiality:
Vines- using lattice work as a system to provide moments of dense greenery during certain times of the year and exposing the structure beneath at other times, this became the dominating aspect of the greenery or plants incorporated in the bridge design.
Gabion wall system: Inspired by the Dominus Winery by Herzog and De Meuron. The wall is structural because of the underlying steel frame that the Gabion wall attaches to. The vine work would also be incorporated with the gabion wall system.
The section shows how the Gabion wall sits within the structure of the building. |
